How do you achieve success in MLM? And what is it? I define success in MLM as accomplishing your goals. For instance, if your goal is to gain financial independence through your network marketing business, and you accomplish it, you have achieved success. On the other hand, if your goal is simply to earn an extra $500 per month, and you reach that goal, you are a success. Simply put, there is no standardized definition of success in our industry. Instead, success is an individual achievement determined the individual.Regardless of what you are trying to accomplish in MLM, it is possible. What separates the masses in our industry, from the people who earn substantial incomes isn’t much. The people who achieve success in network marketing have a different mindset than most of the people who fail. Successful networkers commit themselves to learning what it takes to succeed and then they go out and apply that knowledge. That is the secret to success in MLM. You must learn the required sales, marketing and leadership skills and then you must apply what you learn. Why People Fail in MLM You can be the best student in the world, but theory will only get you so far in life. At some point, you have to leave your comfort zone and actually DO what you learned how to do. Only then will you start to see the fruits of your labor. Few people stick around our industry long enough to achieve success in MLM. After all, how can you expect to achieve success in 30, 60 or 90 days? We are the ONLY industry in the world (that I know of) that people get involved with and QUIT in such a short amount of time. How many Subway® Franchisees quit their business in 90 days because they weren’t making enough money? Probably, none! But our industry is different. Some people quit in less than a week. Most fizzle out within 90 days. And I find that pathetic! Why even get involved in the first place? Why even spend your hard earned money on the products or registration fee? All serious entrepreneurs understand their business is like a baby. It needs constant attention. It needs to be nurtured. It needs to be fed, loved, held, etc. And it needs these things all the time. Well, so does your network marketing business. If you don’t do these things, you won’t achieve success in MLM. Instead, you will be one of those disgruntled people who commit their lives to writing negative messages about our industry all over the internet. And to be quite frank with you, we don’t need any more people like that. How to Achieve MLM Success So, I’m here to help you achieve success in MLM. Listed below are 10 simple things you can do to achieve success in MLM starting today. They are listed in no particular order. # 1) Keep Your Day Job – You have to keep the monkey off your back. You need a regular job to help pay your bills while you grow your network marketing business. If you have a job, you won’t be strapped for cash. And you will have money to invest in your MLM business. Don’t quit your job until your network marketing income replaces your job income, and you have some money saved in your bank account. If you are unemployed, go get a job first, and then build your MLM business part-time. # 2) Work Your Business Every Day– If you are serious about your network marketing business, you must treat it like a real business. You must work your business every single day. You can’t work your business one day this week, and then not do anything else for a few weeks. You must be consistent and do something every day. That could include finding customers, writing an advertisement, training your new downline, or anything else. # 3) Get More Retail Customers – You need customers. If you’re not making money in your network marketing business, you don’t have enough customers. Your goal should be to have at least 20 to 100 personal customers who purchase products from you at the retail price each month. This will give you immediate profits and help give you money to reinvest in your business. # 4) Manage Your Cash Flow Properly – The number one reason businesses fail is poor cash flow. You must consistently monitor how much money is coming in and how much money is going out. If you don’t keep an eye on the pulse, you are doomed for failure. The quickest way to improve your cash flow is to get more customers! # 5) Be Your Own Best Customer – You need to be an expert with your product line. You won’t sell any products if you don’t use them yourselves. Therefore, you need to be your own best customer. You need to know the features and benefits of your entire product line, so you understand its value. If you don’t use your own products, you aren’t serious. After all, would you drive a Porsche® if you owned a Ferrari® dealership? I hope not. # 6) Read Every Day – Readers are leaders and leaders are readers. The best way to learn how to do something is to go out and do it. The second best way to learn something is to read about it. So, you should read every book you can find about sales, marketing, leadership, entrepreneurship, communication, and network marketing and then you should apply everything you learn. If there is one single thing that has changed my life for the better, it’s my reading program. It will have the same affect on your business too! # 7) Create Momentum – The major key to success in MLM is to create momentum. To do that, you need to do two things. You need to find new customers every month and you need to sponsor new distributors every month. If you consistently do those two activities, you will build a “snowball” of momentum that gets bigger every month. # 8) Think Long Term – The major difference between the employee and entrepreneur mindset is the ability to think long term. No real business is built overnight. All successful businesses take time to grow and require constant nurturing. To earn a large residual income in network marketing, it will take you two to five years. But the good news is that you can still make good money BEFORE you get to that point. If you are building a large customer base and teach your downline to do the same, you will make money every month. # 9) Maintain Balance – Your MLM business should not be your top priority in life. Instead, your family should be your top priority. You need to learn how to balance your family time, personal time, job time and MLM business time. Otherwise, your life will be completely out of whack. The best way to maintain balance is to use a day planner and block off time for each area of your life. # 10) Act Like a Leader – If you understand anything about attraction marketing, you should understand that people are “attracted to others.” Your goal is to be a leader that others are “attracted too.” That means you need to have posture. You must act confident and never come across as desperate. You need to be a leader that others want to follow. And the best way to lead is to lead by example. Don’t ask your downline to do something that you aren’t doing yourself. Let your actions speak so loudly that you don’t need to say anything at all.
