Residual income is money that comes in month after month for something you did one time. It is also known as passive income. Most people have to work to get paid. No work equals no money. However, residual income is much different. It comes in whether you work or not. That means you can get paid while on vacation, while you are sleeping, or while you are doing something else. How Does it Work? It’s actually quite simple. You can build a business, buy an asset or create something that pays you over and over. Once it is set up, the money keeps coming in. The easiest way to explain it is to compare it to a tollbooth. Once the government builds a tollbooth, people keep going through the tollbooth and they pay a fee to do it! Ways to Create Residual Income There are so many different ways to create residual income. Unfortunately, none of these methods are taught in school. Therefore, most people only know how to trade hours for dollars, in a job or in a small business. My favorite ways to create a residual income include network marketing, annuities, pensions, royalties, intellectual property, rental property, storage units, affiliate marketing, and online businesses. All of these methods will work. I’ve found it’s best to pick something you are knowledge about. Or, pick something you are passionate about and get started. Why You Need Residual Income? You need residual income for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, if you get injured and can’t work anymore, you won’t be able to earn money to live. Since you currently trade hours for dollars, you would be screwed if you couldn’t continue to work. Another reason to build residual income is to give you options. If you ever dream of becoming financially independent, so you don’t have to work anymore, than you need income streams that come in month after month. This will pay your bills and give you money to live. How to Get Started What’s great about residual income is that you can start building a residual income while you have your day job. That means you won’t be financially strapped. You can pay your bills with your job income and focus on building your residual income part-time. Once you choose a business model, your first step is to find a mentor who has already achieved success what you are trying to do. Try to pick their brain and develop a strategy or game-plan. You should also visit the bookstore and buy a few books on the business model you choose. Finally, you must get started, learn from your mistakes, keep making small improvements and never give up. If you can do that, you will eventually succeed. One final thought is to flush your “get rich quick mentality.” Any real business, or income stream, requires work and effort.
