Online Lead Generation



Online lead generation is an important skill of any small business owner. If you want to build a large and profitable MLM business, you must master Online Lead Generation. Although it might appear overwhelming at first, it’s actually quite easy to do.

The secret to success is to do things differently than 99% of the people involved in multi-level marketing. To be quite frank, most home-based business owners know nothing about sales or marketing. They’ve never had a class about Online Lead Generation. Therefore, they blindly follow the advice of their upline and get dismal results. They end up frustrated and quit. I don’t want this to happen to you. So, I’m going to let you in on a few secrets.

First and foremost, don’t make the mistake of promoting your MLM Company’s website. If they offer you a generic replicated website, don’t use it. If you are part of a marketing system that gives you a website, don’t promote that website either. Your key to success is to create your own unique website or capture page. You must do that because there are thousands of other people out there promoting those other websites.

If you want to succeed in Online Lead Generation, you must use your own funded proposal. Simply put, a funded proposal allows you to pay for your advertising costs, while you build your business. In essence, this allows you to advertise for free. If you don’t use a funded proposal, you will fail in Online Lead Generation and you will go broke. In the paragraphs below, I’ll show you how to set up your own funded proposal, so you can succeed in Online Lead Generation.

Step 1 – Identify Your Target Market

Every business has a target market. If you were selling million dollar homes, you wouldn’t advertise to unemployed, financially destitute people. Instead, you would focus on your target market. Your target market is people who have the financial resources to purchase a million dollar home and want to buy a million dollar home in your geographical area. Since that is your target market, you would focus your time and energy finding out the best way to reach those people. You would want to find out what publications they read, where they eat lunch, what country clubs they belong to and so forth.

Guess what? Network marketing is no different than selling million dollar homes. First and foremost, you must realize that your target market is people already involved in the network marketing business, or people actively seeking to get involved in network marketing. In other words, don’t waste your time and money trying to recruit people who don’t want to get involved in network marketing. Don’t waste your time with “opportunity seekers” or people who are happy with their job.

Step 2 – Create a Funded Proposal

Now that you know your target market, you must use a funded proposal to help offset your advertising costs. Let me give you an example of how a funded proposal could work with Online Lead Generation.

When I worked for an insurance company, it advertised a free estate planning guide. The company created a simple, but quality 20-page estate planning guide. The company realized that most people wouldn’t respond to a “life-insurance” advertisement, but they would respond to a free “estate planning guide” offer.

The company would advertise the estate planning guide on television, on the radio, in newspapers and via direct mail. People would call the toll free number in to request the free guide. As a second option, they could mail in the response card. In exchange, the company would sell these leads to its insurance agents for a small profit. The agents would call the leads and set up an appointment with the prospects to review the estate planning guide. Some of the respondents would purchase an insurance policy from the agent too.

In this situation, everyone benefited. The agents had leads to contact and follow up with. The agency had zero advertising costs, because it sold the leads to its sales force for a small profit. And when the agents sold policies to some of the leads, both the agency and agent benefited. This is the value of a funded proposal. And it’s what most successful companies do.

Funded Proposal Case Study

I do the same thing on my other website. I have a military website for National Guard Officers. On my website, I offer a free e-course to teach the Officers how to get promoted faster and have a successful career. When visitors enter their contact information, they receive an email from me every five days (from my auto-responder). At the bottom of each email, I promote three of my eBooks. Each eBook sells for $27. I know that good percentage of subscribers will purchase my eBooks; especially if they find value in my free e-course.

In essence, that’s what you need to do in your network marketing business. You need to establish yourself as an expert and offer value to your visitors. You don’t want to come across as a salesperson. Instead, you want to be an educator. You want to be known as the guy or gal who helps others.

You should pick one area of network marketing that you are good at, and write a simple 5-10 page report. For instance, if you are great at retailing products, you could write a simple report covering your best 10 tips to generate retail sales. Once the report is finished, you can move to the next step.

Step 3 – Get a capture page, toll free number or website

At this point, you really have two options. You can set up a simple capture page, which is a one or two page website. On your capture page, you would create sales copy to promote your free report. You would include testimonials, a “book cover” and persuasive sales copy. This would encourage visitors to type in their contact information, in exchange for the report. Once they entered their information, your auto-responder could automatically email them the report. It could also follow up with prospects automatically.

In follow up emails, you could promote generic MLM training affiliate products to educate your visitors. Once again, your goal is to not come across as a salesman. You should provide real value in your emails and then offer a product or service at the end. After you’ve contacted your prospects five to ten times via email, you could offer your MLM business opportunity. Some of your prospects will purchase your affiliate products, but most won’t. The sales from these products will offset your advertising costs. In addition, a small percentage of prospects will join your MLM business too. This creates a win-win situation for you, because you can make money whether people join your business or not. And if the Internet isn’t for you, you can use a toll free number instead.

If you want to succeed with Online Lead Generation, you must have your own funded proposal.

Step 4 – Advertise

Once you have your funded proposal created, you can roll out your advertising. My advice to you is to start small. Don’t think that spending lots of money for Online Lead Generation is the key answer. Once again, your goal is to be creative and cost effective. You should try several different advertising methods to see what works for you. Remember, sales is a numbers game. Therefore, you must filter hundreds or thousands of people through your funded proposal, in order to let the numbers work for themselves.

Step 5 – Test Your Results

Once you’ve started advertising, it’s imperative that you test your results. You need to figure out which advertising methods produces the most amount of sales and new distributors. Don’t get caught up on “number of prospects produced.” Some advertising campaigns might produce a large number of prospects, but no sales. Other sources might produce a small number of prospects, but larger number of sales. If you don’t test your advertising you’ll never know this.

Step 6 – Roll Our Your Major Advertising Campaign

Once you know which advertising techniques generate the most sales, you call roll out your major advertising campaign. You can invest more money in advertising without worrying about what to expect.

Final Thoughts

In summary, what we just covered is known as a funded proposal. It’s the most effective way to succeed at Online Lead Generation. If you follow the steps outlined above, I know you will succeed in generating an endless flow of leads for your multi-level marketing business. You will become an online lead generation guru and you will make more money in your business.
