I’d like to start by telling you the internet is bogged down with business opportunities and scams that promise people they will get rich quick. If you find something like that, I’d ask you to run in the other direction. No legitimate business opportunity can promise overnight success. After all, all businesses take time to grow, cultivate and start. I believe that most people like the idea of having an online business, but they aren’t willing to put in the required effort it takes to succeed. I think that most people are naturally lazy and are looking for an easy way to instant online riches. Things never work out that way. I don’t know anyone who built a successful business online without going through a learning curve, investing time and money, and working hard for several years. If you are looking for an online income opportunity, I can give you a few pointers. I’ve been doing this for almost 8 full years now, and I’ve tried everything under the sun. I’ve succeeded with some things and I’ve lost my shirt in other opportunities. That being said, here is what I recommend. 1) Make a list of things you are passionate about! If you’re going to build an online business, why not build a business around something you are passionate about? If you can do something you love, and make money at the same time, that’s the best of both worlds. For instance, let’s suppose your interest is jewelry. You could (1) sell jewelry online, (2) blog about jewelry making, (3) write eBooks about jewelry, (4) sell jewelry on eBay, (5) host webinars about buying and selling jewelry and so forth. 2) Brainstorm different business models Once you have a list of ideas you are passionate about, I recommend you brainstorm different business models. Some of the most popular business models include direct sales, affiliate marketing, infopreneuring, blogging, eBooks, newsletters, and more. Look for a business model that interests you, and find something you understand. 3) Talk with several successful business owners Your next step is to find several successful people in the field you are looking to pursue. Interview them. Email them. Ask questions. Find out their success story and list of mistakes. Find out what they recommend you do. In my opinion, this is the most important step in your business development process. 4) Formulate a game-plan Your next step is to develop a business plan. Don’t just jump into your business without doing your home work first. Create a simple business plan and marketing strategy. Who is your target market? How will you make money? What resources and how much capital do you need to get started? How much time will it take? Most entrepreneurs don’t do any planning, before they start their business. As a result, most new business ventures fail. Make sure you have a game-plan before you get started. 5) Take Action Once you have your game-plan in place, you must take action. Most people fail because they never get started. Anyone can do steps 1-4, but few people will ever act on their ideas. You must get started, keep learning, adapt, and never quit. Most businesses will take 2-5 years to get profitable. You must make a commitment to work your business 2-5 years, without questioning your decision. Final Thoughts In conclusion, if you are looking for an online income opportunity I highly recommend you follow the five steps mentioned above. Although there are plenty of scams online, there are also plenty of legitimate opportunities. Your key to success is to find something you are passionate about, choose a business model, find a mentor, develop a game-plan, and take action.
