Network Marketing Today
Network marketing today is much different than it was in the past. With the invention of the personal computer and the internet, more and more people are taking their network marketing business online. Although this can be a good thing, it simply doesn’t work for most people. In case you do already know this, network marketing is about building relationships with other people. It’s about providing one-on-one service to your customers to educate them about your products and business opportunity. Before the invention of the internet, most network marketers built their business using the direct sales business model. This means that they focused on SELLING their products FIRST and then building a downline. For some strange reason, this important lesson isn’t taught to new distributors. In network marketing today, new network marketers are taught to simply recruit people, without worrying about selling the products. Or, they are taught to get a website, pay for traffic and hope that people will get excited about what they have to offer. In my opinion, that is a recipe for disaster. I say this is a “recipe for disaster” because most people don’t understand online lead generation. And they don’t have the funds to do it either. While they are busy building a blog or website, they end up neglecting their MLM business. And then they get frustrated and quit. To achieve success in network marketing today, you need to get back to the basics. The basics include generating prospects, recruiting new distributors, selling products to customers, and training your new downline members. Those are the four most vial tasks for any network marketer. All other tasks are secondary to these four tasks. You can use the internet to accomplish these tasks, but it’s not always the best way of doing business. Simply put, don’t think the internet is the answer to all your network marketing challenges. It’s not. If you’ve tried doing these four tasks online and failed, I recommend you try a different approach. Get back to doing your network marketing business the old-fashioned way. Some people might disagree with me, but I can name HUNDREDS of successful distributors who continue to build their MLM business using old-school techniques. Don’t let anyone tell you these old-school methods are outdated or don’t work in network marketing today. So, how do you succeed in network marketing today? How do you actually accomplish the four critical tasks to grow your business? Here are some tips for success. • Find a Recruiting Method That Works for You: You are different than your upline. And your downline is different from you. You probably have different personalities, different sales abilities, and different skill-sets. What works for them, might not work for you. Therefore, you need to find a recruiting method you are good at, and stick with it. If you don’t like prospecting, don’t do it. On the other hand, if you are good with online lead generation, stick with that. • Build a Large Customer Base: Don’t ever make the mistake of thinking you don’t need to find retail customers. The ONLY way you earn money in network marketing is to create sales volume. If you recruit 100 people, but no one uses the products, you won’t make any money. But if you have lots of customers, and your downline have lots of customers, you will make money. I recommend you have 20 to 50 personal customers, or more. You can build your customer base by sharing the products with your warm market. • Systemize your Training: You need a way to systemize your training. This will save you time, money, and energy. I recommend you use an auto-responder and create 10-40 pre-written e-mail messages. Each message can cover a different aspect of training. Your downline members will all get the same emails and same training. Even better, everything is done on auto-pilot. You could also use videos instead, and send them through the email. This training won’t replace your face-to-face training, but it will enhance it. • Build Relationships: Most network marketers fail in this category. The single biggest complaint I hear against most big businesses is that the customers feel like a number. You don’t want to make that same mistake. You need to spend time building relationships with your customers and downline. If you don’t, they will take their business elsewhere. To do so, you should: write thank you notes, call people, follow up with everyone, treat everyone with respect, and so forth. Just follow the Golden Rule. In conclusion, network marketing today isn’t much different than it was thirty years ago. The bottom line remains the same. Your key to success is to build relationships with people. No computer or internet connection will ever replace the value of looking someone in the eye, shaking their hand and talking with them. Although you can use the internet to generate prospects and share your business opportunity, the internet should never replace the old-school network marketing techniques. Instead, it should enhance them.
