MLM Stories
What are MLM Stories? In my opinion, there are two common types of MLM Stories: horror stories and success stories. Unfortunately, most of stories you find online are horror stories. Even worse, lots of the stories you will find online are lies and/or propaganda. For example, you will read a “horror story” about someone’s negative experience in one network marketing company, only to be pitched on his newest business opportunity at the end of the story. If you don’t believe me, just do a search for MLM Scam. Or type in the name of your network marketing company followed by the word scam, and see what you get. In 95% (or more) of the search results, you will see someone telling you that one company is a scam, while trying to sell you on a different company or product. How pathetic. But the worst part is that people actually fall for it. Please know that not everything you read on the internet is true or factual. It’s important to understand that anyone can post a story online for the rest of the world to read. And the stories don’t have to be verified. Even worse, many of the culprits write their story anonymously. They have the audacity to slander a company, but they don’t even have the courage to take ownership of their article. I don’t mean to sound so upset, but I am a frustrated. I’ll explain why later in this article. Please know that most MLM Stories only share “one person’s” side of an event. And we all know that there are three sides to every story: your side, my side, and the truth. Bottom line up front: it’s hard to separate the facts from the fiction on the internet. Since the internet is so accessible, more and more people are participating in blogs, forums and chat rooms. Hundreds of new MLM Stories appear online every day. More and more people are sharing their successes and failures about our industry. In my opinion, this is good and bad. The good thing is that people are taking advantage of their freedom of speech. The bad thing is that many “uninformed” people read these “horror stories” and actually believe them. They take the story at face value and accept it as the truth. That gives our industry a negative reputation. And that’s what makes me frustrated and angry. And I’m not sure why so many people feel obligated to post these negative MLM stories everywhere. Millions of business owners (from all professions) fail ever year. Yet very few other industries (none that I know of) have so many disgruntled failures that are so passionate about trying to destroy their industry. After all, how many “accounting firm” business owners or “auctioneers” who went out of business this year are busy filling up the internet with a bunch of negative crap about their industry? None of them are. Instead, they’re busy moving forward with their lives. But our profession does. People claim they were cheated and lied too. Although this might happen once in a while, I believe it to be only partially true. I believe that most of the people who fail in our industry shouldn’t have got involved in the first place. Because our industry is so easy to join, we tend to attract unemployed folks, disgruntled employees and people looking to get rich quick. This is a recipe for disaster. Even worse, most of the people who get involved in network marketing have zero real world entrepreneurial experience. Most do not possess the proper sales and marketing skills either. Nor do they have the required capital to grow their business. Even worse, they don’t treat their business seriously. They treat it like a hobby, or they don’t do anything at all. And then they quit within 90 days and run back to their friends and families to tell them they were scammed. Get real folks! In case you don’t know this; all businesses require hard work. All businesses require start-up capital, marketing expenses, on-going costs, and so forth. More importantly, all REAL business owners take their business seriously. How many “accountants” do you see quit their business in 90 days because it didn’t work? How many business owners who failed with a high cost franchise commit their lives to blogging about how they were scammed? Are you starting to get my point? Network marketing is quite perhaps the ONLY profession that gets so much negative publicity by people who didn’t achieve success. You need to know that upfront, before you do a search for MLM Scam, or read any of the negative MLM Stories online. Before you take any store for “face value,” please keep this in mind. I’m not saying you shouldn’t read any of these negative stories. You should. But you shouldn’t take any of them too seriously. After all, it is just one person’s opinion about something. That doesn’t make it right, wrong or factual. It is simply an opinion. It amazes me how many people read an article and accept it as reality. That’s as crazy as thinking that everything in the newspaper is true. Here’s the moral of the story. It’s up to you to make up your own mind about something. That means you need to gather the information and FACTS and then make an informed decision. Don’t just automatically believe everything you read online. If you do, you will miss out on many wonderful opportunities. In conclusion, there are two types of MLM Stories on the internet. There are success stories and horror stories. If you are going to spend your time reading these stories, please understand that the story is simply one person’s opinion about something. It doesn’t make it right or wrong, true or false, or accurate. Please remember that before you let the story influence your decision on something.
