The MLM Pro
What is a MLM pro? And how can you become one? I define a MLM pro as someone who makes a full-time living in network marketing. Typically, this would include a six figure annual income and/or five figure monthly income. In most cases, successful network marketers work their MLM business full-time, although some do it on a part-time basis. Although very few people rise to this achievement status in network marketing, some do. And if another person did it, so can you. You just have to duplicate what successful distributors did and you will achieve similar results. So, how do you become a MLM pro? It really comes down to a few simple concepts. First of all, you need to find lots of retail customers. You need 50 to 100 personal customers who order your products and services every month. In MLM, you get paid to sell products. Therefore, you need customers to sell your products and services too. When you have customers you have an immediate retail profit. This money can be reinvested into your business to find new customers and distributors. Next, you need to sponsor lots of distributors personally. In order to do that, you need to share your business presentation with hundreds of people, so you can sponsor 40 to 100 distributors personally. If you can do that, you will find 4 to 10 key people who run with the business and build a large downline. It’s important to know that most top earners make a significant portion of their income off two to four of their “legs.” But, to get those two to four good legs, you must sponsor 40 to 100 people (or more). I’ve found that most successful network marketers failed in the industry, before they achieved success. What separates successful network marketers from everyone else is that they stuck around long enough to learn the required sales and marketing skills. In most cases this takes the typical person two to five years. Some people learn quicker, while some take longer. It really just depends upon the person’s ambition, skill-set and work-ethic. When people hear that it will take two to five years to become a MLM pro, they often complain and aren’t willing to make that type of sacrifice. After all, most people don’t have the entrepreneurial mindset. Most people expect instant gratification. They’re used to going to work and getting paid, whether they produce results or not. When they realize they need to change their “mindset” to an entrepreneurial mindset, most people simply won’t do it. It’s not the American way. Most of the time, people have the “get rich quick” mentality. And when they find out this business model requires hard work, they tuck their tail between their legs and run back to their jobs. Don’t let that scare you though. I’ve found that every business has a learning curve. In addition, every business requires hard work. For example, when I first started my antique business on eBay, I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t know where to find inventory. I didn’t know how much I should pay for the inventory when I did find it. Also, I didn’t know anything about eBay’s policies and procedures either. And I didn’t know how to write effective sales copy in my listings or take good photos. All of these things took me time to learn. In fact, during my first two years selling on eBay I worked hard, but didn’t generate one dollar profit after my operating expenses. However, in my third year, I made significant strides and had a profitable business. In my fourth year, things got even better. This year I expect an even higher profit margin. Why do I tell you these things? I share my story with you because I want you to understand that all businesses take time to build. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in 90 days. My eBay experience is similar to an entrepreneur starting an auto dealership. He or she would have to learn the ropes and develop systems for their business. Typically, this takes two to three years for most entrepreneurs. During those first couple years, the business owner might not make any money. But he believes in what he is doing and thinks long-term. He realizes you have to “sow” before you can “reap.” And that’s what he does. Eventually, he succeeds and achieves financial success. If you want to become a MLM pro, you must be willing to make the same type of commitment. You need to “sell out” to the industry and make a decision that you will succeed, no matter what. If you can do that, you will improve your chances of success in MLM. Before I close out this article, I want you to realize one thing. There’s a good reason you should want to become a MLM pro. I don’t know any other business opportunity that provides the residual income and lifestyle that network marketing does. When you search across our industry and take a look at the top leaders, you realize they have the time and money to do what they want to do when they want to do it. Very few entrepreneurs or employees have that luxury. Most traditional entrepreneurs work longer hours than their employees. Network marketers control their own schedule. Now I don’t know about you, but “control” is important to me. I want the ability to “call my own shots” and “do what I want to do when I want to do it.” I can’t do that with my eBay business. That’s why I got involved in network marketing. In conclusion, very few network marketers earn the status of “MLM pro.” But the ones that do have the time and money to live a lifestyle like no other. Although it’s not easy to do, anyone can become a MLM pro if they work hard consistently for two to five years and duplicate what other successful distributors did. Simply put, you need to learn the required sales and marketing skills and then you need to APPLY that knowledge consistently for two to five years. If you do that, you will achieve MLM success.
