What is a MLM list? It is simply a large list of names of potential distributors and customers. Everyone involved in network marketing needs a list of people they can share their business opportunity with. In our industry, your name list is easily your most valuable asset. If you don’t have enough people to share your business opportunity with, your business wont’ grow. Therefore, you must be serious about creating and growing your own name list.
There are three different ways you can build your name list. When you first join the business, you will make a contact list of everyone you know. But as you progress through the business, you will need to use the other methods as well. At a minimum, you should add twenty to fifty names to your contact list each week. We’ll cover each method in more detail below.
• Create Your Own MLM List by Hand: This is the simplest way to get started with your own name list. Your company should provide a one-sheet form to help you brainstorm names. You should spend an hour or two listing everyone you know. Be sure to include neighbors, family, friends, Facebook friends, cell phone and email contacts, co-workers and more. A good goal is to generate a name list with at least 500 names. One thousand names is even better. The bigger your list, the bigger your chances of success. Your list can be handwritten or typed. It should include name, address, email and telephone number.
• Generate Your Own MLM List Online: The second most effective way to get a good MLM list is to generate your own leads. To do this, you need a capture page or website. Your goal is to get people to visit your website and request more information. You need good sales copy on your web-page. You don’t want to overwhelm your visitors with too much information.
Instead, you want to arouse their curiosity, so they ask for more information. You can follow up by email or telephone, but I recommend telephone. Although this method is a very effective way to build a contact list, it is also very expensive. You can easily end up spending $10 to $20 to generate one lead. Therefore, I recommend you test several different advertising methods and learn the ropes before you invest too much money.
• Purchase Leads: If you’ve already worked through all your personal contacts, or aren’t interested in contacting friends and family members about your business opportunity, you can purchase MLM leads. You can visit a MLM lead company website and purchase 500-1000 leads for a reasonable fee. Your key to success is to call each person and follow your telephone script. If you can do that, you might sponsor 1% of the people you call.
Once again, I still think the best MLM list is the list of names of people you know. I say this because you already have a relationship with the people you know. Most of your friends and family members trust you and will at least listen to what you have to say about your business opportunity. And this process is easy to duplicate with your downline distributors. It’s also free.
When you first get started in network marketing, your key to immediate success is to build a large name list and then contact the people who are most likely to listen to you first. This might include your mother, father or sibling. Once you sponsor a couple a people, shift your efforts from personally sponsoring more people to helping your new distributors get started. Help each of your distributors make their own name list. Sit down with them for an hour or two and create the list. Help them approach a couple “easy sells” first and get a couple people sponsored. Once they sponsor a couple people, help their downline do the same thing. If you can pull this off, you improve your chances of success.
Next, you should always be adding people to your MLM list. If you have fifty names on your list this week, you should try to add another 20 to 30 names by next week. One way to add more names to your MLM list is to prospect people you meet during the day. You should always keep an open ear and open eye out for sharp people that you meet during the day. You should strike up conversations with strangers and get business cards.
The best way to do this is to develop your own elevator speech. An elevator speech is a simple thirty second to one minute speech about what you do for a living. The purpose of your elevator speech is to spark curiosity with the people you talk with. For instance, you could say something like “I am a home-based business owner who sells vitamins and nutritional supplements. I also help aspiring entrepreneurs establish their own home-based business.” For someone interested in starting their own business, this will spark their curiosity. If they express interest get their contact information and follow up with them a day or two later.
In summary, your contact list is your most important asset in your MLM business. You should constantly add names to your MLM list every day. You can do this by purchasing leads, generating your own leads or prospecting in day-to-day life. You should also teach all your downline distributors how to do the same thing. If you do, you will achieve MLM success.
