MLM Guru: The Three Types of MLM Gurus Academic, Real World and Faker

What is a MLM Guru? In my opinion, a MLM Guru is a subject matter expert of authority on the subject of network marketing. In essence, there are three types of gurus. This includes academic gurus, real-world gurus and fake gurus. I will cover each one in greater detail below.
The first type of MLM Guru is an academic expert. This is someone who has spent significant time researching the industry and writing about it. In some cases, they have built a network marketing business themselves, and in other cases they haven’t. Typically, the academic expert is someone with the theoretical knowledge, or book smarts. They might have a college degree in network marketing or some type of similar business certification.
Although the academic MLM Guru can provide some helpful information, please keep in mind that the person is only partially qualified to give you advice. After all, would you take advice about how to build a home from someone who’s never built a home themselves?
On the other hand, the second type of MLM Guru is the “real world expert.” This is the experienced network marketer who has spent years in the trenches building a sales organization of customers and distributors. Although this type of person might not have the academic credentials in their title, they are very qualified to give advice. They’ve been there, done that, and know what it takes to succeed.
The third and final type of MLM Guru is the “faker.” This is someone with neither the experience nor academic credentials. It’s someone pretending to be a guru, but without any real qualifications. Unfortunately, the internet is flooded with this type of person. My advice to you is to avoid the faker and seek out a qualified guru.
Personally, if I had to describe myself, I would consider myself a combination of academic and real world experience MLM guru. I’ve been in the industry ten years and experienced some success. Although I’m not a top earner, I do know how to generate leads online, sponsor new distributors, get customers and build a downline. Additionally, I’m certified as a Small Business Coach and I’ve invested several thousand hours building this website and researching the industry.
Should you take my advice? That depends. I can teach you lots of things, but I’ll be the first to admit that you could probably learn more from someone who has earned millions of dollars in this industry. To say otherwise would be a lie.
On a side note, I once heard the advice, “be careful who you listen too because you’ll end up just like them.” That’s the best advice I can give you about finding a MLM Guru. The best thing to do is to find someone who’s accomplished what you are trying to accomplish and seek them out.
