I believe there are certain MLM fundamentals that people should develop, if they want to achieve success in network marketing. In fact, most successful athletes and entrepreneurs are good at certain fundamentals. For example, fundamentals in basketball include dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. By studying the fundamentals, and developing your skills, you will naturally improve (in whatever you do).
In the world of network marketing, there are really six MLM fundamentals you should focus on. They are covered in more detail below.
1. Prospecting: Without a doubt, the most basic fundamental is prospecting. There are many ways to do this, either online or offline. The method you choose isn’t all that important. You simply need to find a method that works for you. I believe that most people fail in MLM because they don’t talk to enough people, and generate prospects.
2. Qualifying: This is another important MLM fundamental that few people mention. When you are selling, you must qualify your prospect first. You must find out if they have the desire and money to join your business. For instance, if you were selling weight loss products, you wouldn’t target fat people. Instead, you would look for people who are overweight, but want to lose weight. More importantly, they must have the desire and the money to purchase your products. Qualifying your prospects first, before you try to sell them is extremely important.
3. Show the Presentation: Once you qualify your prospect, you must show your business presentation. Don’t make the common mistake of giving a 2 hour presentation. Keep your presentation to 20 minutes or less. Try to find a “hot button” with your prospect and tailor your presentation to fill that need.
4. Follow Up: The money is in the follow up. This is a very important fundamental in your business. Many people will tell you “NO” today but will join your business 1-3 years from now. You have to repeatedly follow up with your prospects. Most people won’t join your team or buy your products the first time they hear your message. In fact, most people need to see a message at least 10-20 times before they respond. Never forget that.
5. Develop and Teach Others: This is definitely one of the most important MLM Fundamentals out there. You must get good at developing and teaching others. You must have a systematic game plan to help your new downline members get started right. And you don’t want your downline dependent on you.
6. Lead by Example: Finally, you must lead by example. You must become a leader. That means you must walk the walk, not just talk the talk. After all, people will do what you do.
Other important MLM fundamentals include persistence and consistency. You must work your business each and every week and you must be persistent. Nothing worth accomplishing is ever easy. You fill face rejection, setbacks, and disappointments, but you must hang in there.
In conclusion, there are certain MLM fundamentals you should develop to become a better network marketing leader. At a minimum, you must learn how to prospect, to qualify your prospects, to show your business presentation, to follow up, to develop others and to become a leader. Most people take a few years to learn these skills. But once you develop these skills you will become unstoppable. Good luck!
