Information Products Company: Why You Should Start Your Own Online Business

by Chuck
(MD)

What is an Information Products Company? And should you start one? An Information Products Company is a business that specializes in selling information products such as books, eBooks, DVDs, seminars, webinars, training courses, etc. In the real world, there are lots of Information Product Companies. Several examples include Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Companies, ClickBank.com, and Nightengale-Conant. These companies manufacture and/or sell information products on a variety of different topics.

Many potential authors and aspiring authors dream of getting their manuscript published. Unfortunately, most people never get published. And of the very few that do get published, most don’t sell enough books to earn a good income. In fact, most authors earn between 5-10% royalties from their book sales. That means if a book sells for $20 retail at the local bookstore, the author earns between $1 and $2. Typically, it’s closer to the $1 than it is the $2.

When you have an information product, rather than a traditional book, you get to keep the profits. For example, I turned my military experience into three profitable eBooks. Each eBook sells for $27. My only expense is the PayPal fees, which equal $1.08 per sale. That means I keep $25.92 profit per book. Had I gone the traditional book publisher route, I would have to sell 20 regular books (or more) to make the same amount of profit that I do from one eBook.

In fact, my first three books were published by a traditional publisher. At the time, I didn’t know any better. But one day I learned about eBooks. That day changed my life. Knowing what I know now, I’d rather publish my books myself and convert them into eBooks (and other formats), rather than regular books.

To start your own Information Products Company, all you really need is a good idea and a website. You can turn your work experience, hobby or passions into a thriving online business. Your website is your hub of operations. Your website will generate targeted traffic in the search engines. You can also use pay-per-click advertising or other forms of paid advertising to gain exposure for your website.

Once your site a steady stream of traffic, you can start selling your own information products. For instance, if you had a website about dogs, you could create several eBooks, DVDs or training courses on topics such as:

1. Dog grooming

2. Dog Breeding

3. Dog Nutrition

4. Dog Exercise

5. Dog Personalities

6. And Much More!

Best of all, if you don’t want to create your own eBooks, you can sell other people’s products instead. There are plenty of affiliate products online about a variety of topics. All you need to do is a visit a site like ClickBank.com to find products to sell.

Even better, you can start an Information Products Company for less than $100. All you need to do is get started and invest some sweat equity. If you can do that, you can build a business that replaces your full time job income and provides a wonderful lifestyle. It worked for me, and I know it can work for you!
