Generating MLM Leads
What is the secret to generating MLM leads? How do you do it? What is the best bang for your buck? We will cover several different ways to generate leads below. Some of the more common strategies include:• Prospecting • Newspaper Ads • Capture Pages • Blogs and Websites • Referrals • Ezines To be successful generating MLM leads you must follow a step-by step system to generate leads and then convert them into new distributors and retail customers. To get started, I recommend you follow the seven steps outlined below. STEP 1: Your Personal Website Before you starting generating MLM leads, you need your own website, blog or capture page. In other words, you need a website to send people to. You have a few choices. Most people use a company replicated website provided by their MLM Company or by their marketing system. I don’t recommend you follow this approach. If you use a company replicated website, the leads don’t belong to you. Instead, they belong to your MLM Company. That means that the company keeps the leads if you decide to move to another company. Furthermore, company generated websites don’t rank high in the search engines, so you will get absolutely zero free traffic. Also, if you are using a company replicated website, please realize that hundreds of other distributors are doing the same thing. That limits your chances of success. The best thing you can do is create your own capture page, blog or website. You want a site that looks different than everyone else’s. The best way to do this is to create a simple one-page website known as a capture page. To get started, all you need to do is buy a domain name, get hosting and get an auto-responder. You can get these services at companies like Go Daddy, Host Gator and Aweber. And it should cost less than $35 per month, for everything. Next, make sure your capture page is well structured, pleasing to the eye and has a catchy headline. You want to spark interest with your visitors, so they leave you their contact information in your opt-in form. The best way to do this is to offer a free report, video or something with a good perceived value. If your visitors like the offer, they will type in their contact information into your opt-in form and become a lead. STEP 2: Your Budget Once you have your capture page up and running, you need to set your budget. Your budget will definitely dictate how effective you are at generating MLM leads. The more money you can invest in marketing the better. At a minimum, you should be willing to invest $300 to $500 per month in advertising. If you can afford more than that, that’s even better. On the other hand, if you don’t have any money to allocate toward a marketing budget, there are other, free alternatives for generating MLM leads. Some examples include search engine optimization, article marketing, video marketing, local prospecting, social media and free classifieds. Although these techniques are effective, they will take more time, work and energy than paid advertising. I cover all of these marketing strategies on other pages of this website. STEP 3: Develop Your Primary Marketing Strategy Once you have your budget established, the next step is to pick a marketing strategy that suits you best. Personally, I’m a big fan of pay-per-click advertising. Also known as PPC, pay-per-click advertising lets you create short ads with the search engines and bid on specific key words. When someone searches for that keyword on the search engines, your ad might appear, depending upon how much you bid for the word and how many other people are bidding on that word. The biggest advantage of pay-per-click advertising is that you get targeted traffic. And you get it immediately. The major disadvantage is cost. If you don’t know what you are doing, you can lose your shirt. Another method for generating MLM leads is the local newspaper. Most local papers offer reasonable classified ads. Just make sure you come up with a catchy ad that gets responses. You can put your website address in your ad or have prospects call your home phone, or a toll-free number. There is another advertising strategy that is very effective and doesn’t get talked about much. I call it e-zine advertising. To educate you, an e-zine is simply an online newsletter. People create e-zines geared toward a specific niche. Interested clients subscribe to these e-zines and read them. Most ezine owners offer advertising in their e-zine. In most cases, you can put an ad in the e-zine for $10 to $30. Depending upon how many people subscribe to the e-zine, you will get a decent response. You simply send people to your website. You can find e-zine directories by doing a simple Google search. STEP 4: Testing This is one of the most important steps in the process. You should always test your different strategies. The best way to do this is to create tracking codes for your website. You can do that by adding a word or phrase and the end of your website address. You should create a tracking code for each type of advertising. That way, you can know how many people visited your website from each source. Never roll out a major campaign until you have tested your results. You will find that some marketing strategies work better than other methods. Sometimes the free strategies outperform the paid strategies. And sometimes they don’t. If you don’t test, you will never know. STEP 5: Converting Visitors into Leads Your next goal is to convert visitors into leads. If 1,000 people visit your website, but no one opts-in to your auto-responder (or requested more information), you're not generating any MLM leads. Therefore, you need to effectively convert visitors into leads. Your key to success for generating MLM leads is to have a good offer. Your capture page should “inspire” visitors to leave their contact information. You don’t want to provide too much information and overwhelm your visitors. You want to keep them “wanting more.” As a general rule of thumb, one in every 10 (or so) visitors should become leads. If your ratio is worse than this, you might need to tweak your sales copy on your capture page. STEP 6: Converting Leads into Customers and Distributors Next, you need an effective way to convert leads into customers and distributors. The best way to do this is to follow up with all of your leads with email and a telephone call. You should personally call every lead to introduce yourself and answer any questions they might have. Although the Internet is a helpful tool, the network marketing industry is all about relationships. It’s a lot easier to build a relationship face-to-face or on the telephone, than it is to build a relationship through email. Make sure you pick up the phone and call your leads. STEP 7: Know Your Metrics You must know your metrics if you want to succeed at generating MLM leads. For example, if one in ten visitors becomes a lead and one in ten leads become a distributor, you know that 1 in every 100 visitors will become a distributor in your downline. If you earn $100 for signing up a new distributor, you know that you can afford to pay up to $1 per visitor to your website and break even. If you can get visitors for less than $1 each, you will do even better. However, if you are spending $2 or $3 (or more) per visitor, you will lose lots of money. I hope this makes sense. Keep a close eye on your metrics. Conclusion: In summary, generating MLM leads is very easy to do. The key to success is to develop a game plan and stick with it. You must continually test your results to determine which marketing strategies produce the best results. Once you find the best marketing strategy, and tweak it, you can roll out your major advertising campaign. Finally, it is best to start with one strategy at a time and focus on that one strategy until you master it. If you want to become a top earner, you must become a master at generating MLM leads.
