Business MLM Lead
What is a business MLM lead? I define a business MLM lead as a person with previous entrepreneurial experience. This includes small business owners, entrepreneurs, and home-based business owners. The reason these types of people are great leads is because they have entrepreneurial experience. And they have the entrepreneurial mindset. They understand the sacrifices required to build a profitable business. They also have sales and marketing skills. As you can tell, these are all valuable skills that every network marketer needs.Where You Should Focus Your Time If you want to generate business MLM leads, you should focus on mom and pop stores, small gas stations, floral businesses, auction houses, accountants, lawyers, doctors and so forth. The reason you should pick small businesses is because the owner is actively involved in the business. He or she will probably work on-site. On the other hand, try to avoid large businesses. Most large businesses are managed by employees, not the owner himself. The “mindset” of an employee and entrepreneur are 100% different. That’s why you want to focus on the business owners instead. In addition, most small business owners have a large sphere of influence. If they do end up joining your MLM opportunity, they have a great chance of achieving success. I say this because most small business owners could easily build a prospect list of 1,000 or more names. All you would need to do is help them present the sales presentation to their prospects. How to Approach Prospects So, how do you approach small business owners about your MLM business? The best way to approach them is with your products and/or services first. For instance, if you worked with a company such as Pre-Paid Legal, you could offer them an inexpensive legal plan for their business. On the other hand, if your company sells information technology products, you could show the small business owner how to save money on IT while improving their IT capabilities. Don’t make the mistake of pitching your business opportunity in the beginning. Lead Generation Techniques You can approach small business owners in any of the following ways: 1. Email Campaign: You could send a potential business MLM lead an email about how your products, services or business opportunity could help them. Remember, it’s not about you, it’s about them. When you write the email, introduce yourself and clearly state the purpose of the email. Don’t be misleading. Tell them you can show them how to increase revenue, reduce costs, or allow them to have more free time. Next, give them an example of how they could do that. Finally, ask for an appointment to sit down with them. Don’t come across like a snake oil salesman. 2. Direct Mail: You could mail a couple hundred postcards to different business owners in your local community. You would probably get a small response of 1-2%. You would then follow up with the people who responded. These are your business MLM leads. You can normally create and mail nice custom postcards for somewhere around $1.50 each. The major downside is that it is expensive, impersonal and less effective than other methods. 3. Door Hangers: You could hang door hangers on doors after hours. When the owner arrived the next day, he might call you. Your key to success is to have a “flashy” door hanger with a great sales message. Once again, try to offer a solution to one of the small business owner’s problems. 4. In Person: This is easily the most effective way to connect with a business MLM lead. If you are willing to overcome your fears of rejection, you should give this a try. If possible, call the small business owner and set-up an appointment to meet with him in person. Don’t show up without an appointment; that’s unprofessional. 5. Networking Events: Another great way to meet small business owners is to attend networking events with the local Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters, Small Business Conventions and so forth. Your job is to introduce yourself to as many people as you can and get their contact information. You can follow up with them at a later date. Keys to Success The key to success with any of these methods is to focus on the business owner’s interests, not yours. In other words, what can you offer the business owner? How can you help her save time, money, etc? What can you do to help them make more money and increase revenues? Every small business owner is looking for creative ways to increase profits, reduce expenses, and have more time with their families. If you can show them how to do that, they will be receptive to your ideas, products, and services. I recommend you start with the businesses you know. To get started, make a list of the small businesses that you interact with on a regular basis. Start with those business owners. As you exhaust your list, visit the Yellow Pages in your phone book to find additional businesses. Also, when you talk to small business owners, don’t forget to get referrals. Please know that many small business owners won’t be interested in your opportunity or services. But some of them will. Some of them will be looking for alternative ways to make extra money or will be interested in the “value” of your products or services. Even though lots of people will say no to you, you simply need to work through the numbers to find a few key people. Final Thoughts In conclusion, a business MLM lead is someone with previous entrepreneurial experience. This includes small business owners such as mom and pop stores, lawyers, doctors, dry cleaners, etc. Your goal is to “connect” with other entrepreneurs and show them how to solve one of their problems. If you can do that, you will meet plenty of great prospects and build a large network marketing business.
