Affiliate Marketing for Dummies

Affiliate Marketing for Dummies What I would like to do is give you a class on affiliate marketing for dummies. If you are like most other novice internet marketers, you’re probably trying to find a way to make money online. You might have even heard that affiliate marketing is the way to go. If so, you might be on to something, but you need to do yourself a favor and educate yourself first.

What I’m going to share below are some helpful affiliate marketing for dummies tips. These are just helpful things I’ve learned during my past five years of affiliate marketing. Let’s get started.

What is affiliate marketing? Affiliate marketing is the process of selling someone else’s physical or digital products, in exchange for a portion of the profits. Many entrepreneurs create products and let other people sell the products for them. For instance, Mike writes and eBook about trophy bass fishing. He sets up a website and sells the book for $20.00. Instead of just promoting the book by himself, he lets other people sell the eBook for a 50% commission. Joe buys the book and likes it. He decides to become an affiliate. He then signs up for the affiliate program on the website. In return, he gets several banner ads and his own affiliate link. Next, he puts the banners on his fishing blog. Whenever someone purchases the eBook through his affiliate link, he earns a commission. It’s that simple.

How can I get started? The best way to get started with affiliate marketing is to sell someone else’s product. That way you can develop your marketing skills. To get started, you can visit the ClickBank.com website or simply do an internet search for “affiliate products.” You will probably find thousands of potential products. If you already have your own blog, you can simply add the link (or banner ad) to your blog. If you don’t have a website or blog, you will need to develop a marketing strategy, such as pay-per-click advertising, video marketing, or article marketing. Most affiliate programs are free to join. I always recommend you purchase the product first, before you start selling it. That way you know whether or not the product is any good. After all, you don't want to tarnish your reputation.

On the other hand, if you want to create your own products, you can. I still recommend you start out as an affiliate first though, until you learn the ropes.

How much money can I make? Obviously, individual results will always vary. Ultimately, your success boils down to your ability to send targeted traffic to your affiliate link. Most programs have a 1% (or less) conversion rate. So if you send 100 people to your affiliate link, you might get one sale. You might get none. Most affiliates don’t make anything because they don’t have the traffic. However, if you already own a popular blog or website, you have a much better chance of making a good amount of affiliate income. Please know that some people make thousands of dollars each month selling affiliate products.

What is your best advice? My best affiliate marketing for dummies advice is to take it slow. Pick one affiliate program at a time and stick with one marketing strategy at a time, until you know what you are doing. You want to focus your efforts and you want to test your results. You need to test everything you do, so you can find out what works and what doesn’t work. Once you've developed the right skill-set, you can change affiliate programs or start your own affiliate program.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, this is my affiliate marketing for dummies class. I believe that affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online. The best way to get started is to pick a quality product at a reasonable price. You should be a customer first, so you have a good understanding of the product. Finally, you need to become efficient at marketing your affiliate link to your target market. If you can do that, you will get good results with affiliate marketing.
