Is Affiliate Marketing Any Good?
Is affiliate marketing any good? That’s a common question that I get asked a lot. My answer to that question is “it can be.” It really boils down to your marketing skills and ability to send traffic to your affiliate link or website. Affiliate marketing is the process of selling other people’s products for them. In return, you get a share of the profits. This concept is extremely popular online. Although most people don’t make any money selling affiliate products, others earn a full time living. The Most Important Question Before you decide to become an affiliate marketer, you must ask yourself how am I going to sell the product? That is the single most important question. In other words “what is your marketing strategy?” Without a sound marketing strategy you will fail! That’s why I think it’s better to focus on building a website that gets lots of traffic, before you become an affiliate marketer. With good traffic, you can sell almost anything. Without traffic, you won’t sell anything. Personally, I sell affiliate products on my website quite well. But that’s because I have a good amount of website traffic, my affiliate products are targeted to my website visitor, and the affiliate products are high quality and reasonably priced. Let’s cover these three things in a little more detail. Tips Success Equation 1. Traffic: As you are well aware, selling is a numbers game. If you are selling affiliate products, a typical conversion rate is 1% of less. For every 100 people that visit the sales page, you might generate one sale. But to get 100 people to click on your affiliate link, you might need to have 1,000-3,000 or more people visit the page where you place the link. Does that make sense? Most people think they can just put affiliate links on their blog or website and start making money right away. However, if you don’t have sufficient traffic, you won’t sell any affiliate products. 2. Products: Personally, I’d never recommend a junky affiliate product. And there are plenty of them out there. There are also lots of good affiliate products. Most new affiliate marketers make the common mistake of selling unrelated affiliate products on their website. For instance, they might have a fishing website, but they try to sell make money online affiliate products on their website. In my opinion, that won’t work. You need targeted, related affiliate products. So, your fishing website should sell fishing related affiliate products. 3. Quality and Price: Whatever you are trying to sell must have a high perceived value. It must be exceptional quality at a reasonable price. That doesn’t mean cheapest price, but it does mean that the value must be high. I recommend selling affiliate products in the $20 to $100 range. Additionally, you want products that you earn a decent commission from selling. I seldom recommend something I can’t make at least $20 on. Final Thoughts So, is affiliate marketing any good? You bet. It’s real good if you know what you are doing. But don’t expect to get rich quick as an affiliate. Like any business, it takes time to learn the ropes and figure out what you are doing. In conclusion, the phrase "is affiliate marketing any good" is a common question asked by internet newbies. In my opinion, it's very good, once you become proficient at marketing your website or affiliate link!
